Dialysis

The Dialysis Center at AIG Hospitals provides dialysis, a life-saving treatment, for patients with chronic kidney failure. Broadly there are 2 types of dialytic therapies for end-stage renal disease patients. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis uses a machine and a filter to remove waste products and water from the blood. Peritoneal dialysis uses a fluid (dialysate) that is placed in the patient’s abdominal cavity to remove waste products and fluid from the body.

HEMODIALYSIS

The Dialysis unit at AIG  Hospitals has 14 hemodialysis stations. Dialysis care at AIG Hospitals is provided by a team of professionals which includes Nephrologists, registered nurses, and certified hemodialysis technicians. The unit provides hemodialysis to a diverse group of adult patients who have chronic (long-term) kidney failure. Hemodialysis is a treatment that replaces the work of kidneys to clear wastes and extra fluid from the blood. This is done using a special filter called a dialyzer or artificial kidney. Blood travels through plastic tubing to the dialyzer, where it is cleaned and then returned back to circulation. The dialysis machine pumps blood through the dialysis system and controls the treatment time, temperature, fluid removal and pressure.

The unit’s goal is to maintain and improve the overall health and quality of life for patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). We continuously monitor patient satisfaction and clinical indicators in order to measure and improve the quality of patient care and to maintain our high standards of operation.

The facility is equipped with hemodiafiltration mode of dialytic therapy which improves the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients by increasing more toxic middle molecules and large molecule clearance. The unit also offers hemoperfusion which can be used in the poisoning to remove the toxic agents. Dialytic unit at AIG Hospitals is also facilitated with Plasmapheresis, a form of extracorporeal therapy which is usually offered to patients with renal diseases like TMA, Vasculitis.

Dialysis unit at AIG Hospitals offers CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) which is the preferred modality for managing hemodynamically unstable patients with AKI most often seen scenario in ICUs. The different CRRT modalities use diffusion, convection, or a combination of both for solute clearance. The advantages of CRRT include hemodynamic tolerance caused by slower ultrafiltration and solute removal.

The unit is equipped with machines which will facilitate Hybrid therapies like PIRRT (Prolonged Intermittent Renal Replacement Therapy)- sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED), and extended daily dialysis (EDD). We also offer home hemodialysis which facilitates more frequent or longer dialysis treatments, which contribute to better clinical outcomes and an overall improved quality of life. Home hemodialysis (HHD) patients and their care partners will be provided with a comprehensive safety and training period after which they are enrolled in home hemodialysis programme. The unit offers incentre daily Nocturnal hemodialysis to selective patients.
