Clinical Microbiology

The Department of Clinical Microbiology at AIG Hospitals is a state-of-the-art diagnostic facility offering comprehensive services for the accurate identification and management of infectious diseases. Operating from both Gachibowli and Somajiguda branches, the laboratory performs approximately 500,000 tests annually, providing round-the-clock services 24/7, 365 days a year to meet the needs of clinicians and patients.


Scope of Services

The laboratory is equipped with expertise in conventional, automated, and molecular diagnostic techniques, delivering high-quality results across various subspecialties, including:

  • Infectious Disease Serology

Our team maintains dynamic communication with clinicians to provide timely consultations and guidance, contributing to improved patient outcomes. The laboratory also plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control Program.

Many of the tests conducted by the department are NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited, ensuring the highest standards in diagnostic accuracy and reliability.

External Quality Assessment Participation

The department actively participates in several national and international External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS), including:

  • CMC Micro EQAS
  • IAMM Virology EQAS
  • EUROIMMUN EQAS
    Our lab consistently achieves scores above 90%, reflecting our commitment to excellence.

Education and Training

The department is recognized for its DNB (Diplomate of National Board) program in Microbiology, with two seats available per academic year. The goal of the program is to train competent microbiologists who are:

  • Skilled in diagnostics and clinical consultation
  • Capable of critically analyzing medical literature
  • Prepared for independent practice across healthcare settings

The curriculum includes theoretical knowledge, clinical exposure, research opportunities, and practical experience in a structured yet flexible learning environment. Students are actively encouraged to participate in research and scholarly activities.
