Professional Synopsis:

Dr. Rupjyoti Talukdar is a highly accomplished physician who had done his MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) from Guwahati Medical College, Assam. After completion of MD, he pursued Senior Residency in Gastroenterology at PSRI, New Delhi. Following senior residency, he joined the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, the USA as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. After completion of his post-doc, Dr. Talukdar joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA, where he completed his Advanced GI- Pancreatology Fellowship. He also held the designation of Instructor of Medicine at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education (MSGME). After joining the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in 2011, he spent a short stint as a Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He has a rich clinical experience of 14 years post-MD and has expertise in handling the most complex cases in the subject.

During his training period and thereafter, besides patient care, he has been spearheading several research areas in pancreatology such as the elucidation of the early molecular events in acute pancreatitis, identification of prognostic markers and therapeutic targets in acute pancreatitis, gut microbiota and GI/pancreatic diseases, stellate cells in the pathogenesis of chronic pancreatitis, pain mechanisms and management in chronic pancreatitis, depression and quality of life in chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic genetics. He is among the handful clinicians in India who are involved in bench research and heads his own group of basic science researchers. His research group is the first in India to have isolated pancreatic stellate cells from human and murine pancreas. He is also a member of the pancreatic islet transplantation team at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology.

He has extensively published original research articles, invited reviews, and editorials in high impact international and national journals. He also has several book chapters and health-related articles for the general public to his credit. He serves as Associate Editor for the journal BMC Gastroenterology, an editorial board member for the journal Pancreatology and reviewer for at least 17 international and 2 national journals. He is an active member of several professional organizations such as the American Gastroenterological Association, International Association of Pancreatology, American Pancreatic Association, Indian Society of Gastroenterology, and Association of Physicians of India. He is also a member of the working committee on SIBO in gastrointestinal diseases. Dr. Talukdar is being invited regularly as a speaker at several GI conferences and continuing medical education (CME) meetings.
