Dr. Rakesh Kalapala is Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and the Director of Endoscopy at the Centre for Obesity and Metabolic Therapy, AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, India. Dr. Kalapala has over 15 years of clinical experience across a wide range of advanced endoscopic procedures, including UGI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), with Bariatric Endoscopy being his focus area. His therapeutic interests focus on managing Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Gastro-Intestinal Motility Disorders, and Endotherapy in GERD.

He is highly skilled in performing endobariatric procedures, such as Intra Gastric Balloons, Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty, Duodenal-Jejunal Bypass Liners, and Endoluminal Vertical Gastroplasty. Dr. Kalapala has significantly contributed to clinical research, serving as the Principal Investigator for several pivotal studies aimed at improving treatment options for obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH).

Dr. Kalapala has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Young Investigator Award at the Asian Neurogastroenterology & Motility Association (ANMA) in 2011 and the B. J. Vakil Award for Clinical Research from the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in 2008. His research work is extensively published in renowned medical journals, highlighting his contributions to gastroenterology.
