The kidney biopsy is the gold standard and current standard of care in the diagnosis and management of renal disorders. The kidney biopsy is invaluable in assessing the extent of disease activity and chronicity which will guide prognosis and therapy, as well as establishing the renal involvement of systemic diseases, such as autoimmune and paraprotein disorders. Nephrologists perform percutaneous renal biopsy under local anaesthesia with disposable, automatic, spring-loaded devices.
